 Comprising forty-five lots, the present Northern India auction traces four centuries of cartographic imagination, power, and modernisation across the subcontinent’s imperial heartlands. Early printed maps by Fries, Baffin, Blaeu, and Jansson record Europe’s first attempts to comprehend Hindustan and the Mughal world, shaped by trade, diplomacy, and courtly encounter.

The sale moves from mapping to representation, with engravings of Mughal ceremony and princely spectacle, alongside rare indigenous publications offering a counterpoint in self-portrayal. Nineteenth-century provincial and presidency maps mark the rise of administrative control, sharpened by crisis cartography centred on Lucknow and Delhi. The auction concludes with Survey of India sheets, road maps, and the iconic Air India route map, charting the transition from empire to infrastructure and national aspiration.
